While serving Piqua City Schools as Business Coordinator for several years, with responsibilities of managing buildings and grounds, I had opportunity to utilize the services of R.J. Howell Company several times. Each time, the response from them was a friendly no pressure competitive quote, with realistic time lines for completion, and great service. One example of this was evident last fall when Howell's services were summoned to address a drainage issue at Piqua Jr. High. The water table is naturally high, and had prevented mowing of the lawn area behind the building. While our initial thoughts from an owners perspective was to install several drainage tile fingers to dry up the space, Howell recommended starting out with a more conservative approach, and allowing time to see if less tile would be adequate to accomplish our goal.
As an owner, I appreciate this honest approach in doing what is best for the owner, not the service company bottom line!
Another project that is a great testimony to their excellent concrete work was the installation of a concrete addition to the patio area at the entrance to the Jr. High School. Their work was top quality, as they maintained the adequate fall and drainage we needed to keep water away from the building, and offered the suggestion to tie in to drainage tile with an added catch basin for insurance. It worked perfect, and was just what we needed.
